Criteria for Inclusion

The goal of this web site is to provide information about quality of life and functional status instruments that have been used in the assessment of patients with pulmonary disease or critical illness. The criteria for inclusion of instruments in this site are the following:

  1. An instrument which assesses quality of life, health-related quality of life, or functional status,
  2. The instrument must have been used to assess patients with pulmonary disease or critical illness and this assessment must be published in the peer review literature, and
  3. The instrument development as well as its reliability and validity must be published in the peer review literature.

There may be instruments that meet these criteria that have not been included on this web site as an oversight by the committee that developed this site. This site will be updated on a regular basis and we would like to know about instruments that should be included in the site.

Inclusion of an instrument in this web site should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the instrument by the American Thoracic Society. This site does not at this time incorporate a formal process of evaluation or rating of instruments.
